RMR Testing

RMR Testing

Resting metabolic rate (RMR) is the measurement of how much food, or energy, is required to maintain basic body functions such as heartbeat, breathing, and maintenance of body heat while you are in a state of rest. That energy is expressed in calories per day. So an RMR test shows how many calories you burn at rest, doing nothing more than sitting in a chair.

RMR testing is unique to Dr. Rogers Centers. Your RMR is the first test we will review during your in clinic evaluation. The test results are usually unanticipated. A majority of the time patients are pleasantly surprised how high their metabolism numbers resulted. Therefore, the reason for weight gain is not completely calorie driven but fuel source utilization driven. On the other hand, the metabolism may be low and an experienced weight loss trained provider must interpret and design a program for successful weight loss with the end goal being weight maintenance.

The RMR test takes about 30 minutes to perform. The testing is included in the initial New Weight Loss Visit. The testing requires you to be fasting from food and exercise at least 4 hours before the test. Please stay hydrated with water. Please take regular prescribed medications the day of the test and avoid coffee and over the counter stimulants such as decongestants. We also suggest not taking ADHD and ADD medications.

VO2 Testing

VO2 Max is the maximum rate of oxygen consumption that can be attained during the most intense exercise possible. The measurement requires that the subject breathe into an oxygen consumption analyzer during an all-out effort (usually on a treadmill or bicycle) as part of a graded exercise protocol. These protocols involve specific increases in the speed and intensity of the exercise. While exercising, the person wears a mask to collect all the air they breathe in and out for a measurement of the volume of exhaled gas and the concentration of oxygen in that exhaled gas. This determines how much oxygen is used during each minute of the exercise test.

Dr. Rogers Centers suggest obtaining a VO2 test for 2 main reasons.
The first reason is to obtain the exact heart rate for maximal fat burning while exercising for weight loss. The other reason is for longevity. Studies show increasing the VO2 (getting in better shape) will decrease your relative risk of mortality as much or even more as quitting smoking, end stage renal disease etc.

The VO2 test takes about an hour. Please wear comfortable workout clothes and tennis shoes.

Inbody

Body composition is used by Dr. Rogers Centers to evaluate our patients weight by breaking it down into its core components: fat mass, muscle mass and body water.
It describes your healthy weight more accurately and provides a better glimpse into your overall health than traditional methods like BMI & weight. Body composition analysis can accurately show changes in fat mass, lean muscle mass, and body fat percentage. Our goal at Dr. Rogers Centers is not only to lose weight but “RECOMP” your body to a healthy body composition. The Inbody helps direct your weight loss plan, while tracking your weight loss success.
