What causes thin lips?
Some people are born with thin lips or with one lip thinner than the other. Lips also thin out as we age. This is because we lose elasticity in our skin, including our lips, as collagen levels drop.
Excess sun exposure or sunburns can also cause the collagen to break down. If you’re a smoker, it will take a toll on your lips, too.
What are fillers?
Fillers are substances that are injected into areas of your body, like the lips or face, to create a fuller look. Some fillers can also reduce fine lines and wrinkles around your mouth. We use a variety of fillers, including Juvéderm® and Bellafill®, to achieve your desired results.
While each filler works a bit differently, most include hyaluronic acid. This is a natural substance found in your body that helps retain water in your skin and connective tissue. Hyaluronic acid is great for changing the structure, shape, and volume of your lips, as it naturally plumps any area where it’s applied or injected.
When you come in for a consultation, we’ll discuss your aesthetic concerns, and our experts will determine which fillers are best for your lip augmentation.
How can fillers plump my thin lips?
Based on your desired results, one of our licensed medical professionals injects a filler into certain areas of your lips to shape them into the final look. There’s no surgery and no cutting, and the treatment only takes about 15-30 minutes. You’ll notice the results quickly, but your lips will need time to heal.
Does the procedure hurt?
Getting lip fillers may hurt a little bit, but we do everything we can to minimize your pain. We use a numbing agent on your lips first, before injecting anything.
Considerations
Before you leave our office, we’ll also give you after-care instructions. For example, it’s important not to touch your lips after the treatment. Otherwise, you could push the filler into other areas of your lips and ruin your perfect pucker.
While side effects are usually minimal, we’ll also let you know how to handle any bruising, swelling, or pain that may occur for a day or two after your procedure.
Fillers are a great way to get the luscious lips you’ve always wanted. But, the results aren’t permanent. Depending on the amount and type of filler used, results can last anywhere from a few months to a year.
Both men and women can benefit from lip fillers, but women tend to get the procedure more often. As with any cosmetic procedure, it’s most important to do it for yourself!
